The United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Rt Hon Baroness Winterton of Doncaster DBE, arrived in Dhaka this week for her third visit to the country, aiming to reinforce and expand the longstanding and mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership between the UK and Bangladesh.

On Monday, Baroness Winterton visited Uniglory Cycle Components Ltd, a Bangladeshi exporter and one of the country’s prominent suppliers of cycle components to the UK market. The visit underscores efforts to diversify Bangladesh’s exports beyond the garment sector under the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).

During her stay, the Trade Envoy is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with senior government ministers, as well as military officials, to discuss shared priorities for mutually beneficial growth and to reaffirm the UK’s role as a reliable long-term economic partner for Bangladesh.

She will also engage with business leaders, including representatives from UK companies operating in Bangladesh, to explore new avenues for increasing bilateral trade, investment and commercial ties.

A key focus of the visit is on Bangladeshi businesses that export to the UK under the DCTS

Bangladesh remains the largest beneficiary of duty-free access under the DCTS, supplying high-quality goods to British consumers at competitive prices.

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke said, ‘Shared growth and prosperity are at the heart of the UK–Bangladesh relationship, and Baroness Winterton’s third visit in a year reflects just how seriously we take that commitment. This visit will further solidify our partnership as Bangladesh enters an exciting new chapter.’

The engagements are expected to help support Bangladesh’s transition towards a more diversified, resilient and high-value economy.
