Mother, daughter killed in their sleep as truck ploughs through roadside hut in Bogura

A woman and her daughter were killed when a sand-laden truck ploughed through a roadside shanty in Omarpur Bazar-haat area of Bogura's Nandigram upazila early today.

The deceased are Atejan Bewa (68) and her daughter Katoli Bibi (46), reports our Bogura correspondent.

A truck carrying over 16 tonnes of sand hit the roadside hut where the mother and daughter were sleeping, said Ratan Kumar Debnath, station-in-charge of NandigramFire Service and Civil Defense.

 "We rushed to the spot soon after the incident took place around 2:15am. The truck was overtaking another vehicle and lost control. We recovered the bodies from under the truck," he said.

Inspector of Kundarhaat highway police outpost (Nandigram) Saiful Islam said, "The sand-laden truck was going to Ruppur Power Plant from Dinajpur."

The truck driver managed to flee the scene but police arrested his assistant Alam Sheikh (30), he said.
