Corruption case: SC refuses to grant bail to BNP leader Mir Nasir

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today refused to grant bail to BNP leader and former state minister for Civil Aviation Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin in a corruption case in which he was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment.

The apex court kept his bail petition stand over (waiting for hearing) till December 14.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order. The bench held a hearing on the bail petition of Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin on Sunday.

Anti Corruption Commission's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin cannot get released from the jail following the SC order.

The Appellate Division may hold a further hearing on his bail petition after December 14, he added.

Lawyers AJ Mohammad Ali and Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal appeared for Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin while Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the ACC during the virtual hearing on the bail petition on Sunday.

On November 8, a Dhaka court sent Mir Nasir to jail on his surrender in the case.

He recently filed the petition, seeking bail in the case on health ground.
