Income imbalance in USA

Recently, I came across an AFP news report which states that the US economy needs to prop up the income of the poorer section of its society. What is possibly happening there is that the rich are getting richer, while the poor are becoming poorer day by day. If this trend is not arrested and reversed, then the USA may have to face darker and possibly violent days ahead that will have a global impact. The US authorities should be aware of the potential dangers of this trend and take timely measures to contain this situation.
