A few suggestions for the new mayor's consideration

It was very encouraging to see the Mayor of DNCC at the collapsed site of Panthopath road intersection. By doing this he has proved that he wants to address problems in a straight manner. I have a few suggestions for the Mayor of DNCC. His priorities should be as follows:

1.  Reducing traffic congestion in DNCC area to a bearable level by taking practical and meaningful steps.

2. Taking effective steps to make the city cleaner.

3. Setting up public toilets near every crossing.

4. Making multi-storeyed car parkings near every commercial area through negotiations with Rajuk.

5. Prosecuting all the owners of commercial buildings and towers who have converted the basement into another shopping arcade violating Rajuk's conditions.

6.  Ensuring that there are sufficient numbers of health inspectors to ensure proper food inspection at restaurants.

To solve problem no.1, the streets need to be marked for zebra crossings and a line must be marked for inbound and outbound traffic. All the crossings must have a line beyond which cars, CNGs and motor bikes cannot go.

To solve problem no.2, all the streets must be made free of garbage disposal containers. The collection of garbage must be done more frequently.

To solve problem no.3, legislation is needed to make it binding for every restaurant in the city to have a toilet and ensure that using a toilet in the restaurant is free of charge.

To solve problem no. 4, space is needed for multi-storeyed car parkings and the police must be made to clear illegal parkings.

To solve problem no. 5, owners of commercial buildings who have converted the basement into markets/stores should be prosecuted.

To solve problem no. 6, the number of health inspectors must be increased, they should be trained and motivated to provide a better environment for restaurant visitors.
