Kerala Chief Minister says won’t implement CAA

The Chief Minister of the southern Indian state of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, has said his government will not implement the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

"The state government has already explained its stance, which was that it was not supporting CAA. [...] let me make it clear, it will not be implemented," Vijayan said in Kasargod, Kerala, on Saturday, referring to Indian Home Minister Amit Shah's statement last week that the process of implementing CAA would start after the Covid-19 vaccination drive.

"Has it been implemented anywhere else? We are just making our stance clear. This government will not allow this disaster in Kerala", said Vijayan, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

He also said that he previously moved a resolution in Kerala assembly, soon after CAA was passed by Indian parliament, opposing the Act.
