The Department of Environment (DoE) in Chattogram seized an earth-laden truck and an excavator during a drive in Chambol union under Banshkhali upazila this afternoon.
The seized truck and excavator were being used to raze hills to fill up land for a government housing project for lower income groups, Afzarul Islam, assistant director of DoE in Chattogram, told The Daily Star.
The DoE official alleged that Mujibul Haque Chowdhury, chairman of Chambol Union Parishad, has been razing the hills and filling up land for the project for the last one year.
"On information, we conducted a drive there and seized one earth-laden truck and an excavator," Afzarul Islam also said.
