Govt sets target to purchase 16.5 lakh tonnes of paddy, rice

The Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) today set the procurement target for rice and paddy.

The committee set a procurement target of 4 lakh tonnes of paddy and 12.5 lakh tonnes of parboiled rice for the upcoming Boro season during a meeting at the Secretariat.

The committee also proposed to increase the paddy price by Tk 2 to Tk 30 per kg and parboiled rice price by Tk 4 to Tk 44 per kg, said Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder at a briefing after the meeting.

The price increase was proposed to ensure that farmers receive a fair price, he said.
