Omicron: Mandatory 14-day quarantine for passengers arriving from South Africa, says Momen
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen today said passengers arriving from South Africa must undergo a compulsory quarantine period of 14 days.
"We are discouraging people living in South Africa and adjacent countries from coming to Bangladesh now. But we are ready, if they come ... It will not be a big problem," said the minister.
He said this at an inauguration programme of Orphan Village constructed by CAP Foundation at Shalutikor in Sylhet this afternoon.
The remarks came following the detection of the new Omicron variant in several countries and in a bid to stop the spread of the new Covid-19 variant in Bangladesh.
"Most countries have banned flights from South Africa. We do not have any direct flight from there," he added.
He said, "People having two jabs of vaccine and a coronavirus negative certificate will be given a boarding pass with the condition to quarantine themselves for 14 days."
