Omicron: Night curfew reimposed in Delhi from tomorrow over surge in Covid-19 infection
Night curfew will be reimposed in New Delhi, India from tomorrow amid a steady rise in Covid-19 cases and the outbreak of the Omicron variant, joining a number of other Indian cities and states to clamp the curb to check the spread of the infection.
The night curfew is scheduled to remain in force from 11 pm to 5 am every night, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
India has so far reported 422 Omicron cases, and states have introduced restrictions as a precautionary measure.
Maharashtra has the highest number of Omicron cases, at 108, followed by Delhi at 76, 43 in Gujarat, 41 in Telangana, 38 in Kerala, and 34 in Tamil Nadu.
Delhi reported 290 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest in six months, and one related death in the last 24 hours.
Delhi has been witnessing a surge of fresh Covid-19 cases amid the spread of Omicron, triggering concerns.
The governments of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka today decided to impose a night curfew for ten days from December 28, between 10 pm to 5 am and also announced restrictions for New Year related parties and gatherings.
West Bengal decided to extend existing curbs on movement between 11 pm and 5 am till further notice.
