Highest number of Covid cases reported in 24 hours; 220 die, 13,768 infected

Two hundred and twenty people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8 am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With this, the total number of deaths reached 16,639, and the death rate stands at 1.61 percent.

At least 13,768 new infections were recorded in the meantime, taking the total number of people infected to 10,34,957, added the release. The infection number is the highest since the Covid-19 pandemic began in the country.

The current positivity rate is 31.24 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 14.75 percent.

A total of 44,067 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8 am today).

At least 7,020 Covid-19 patients have recovered in this period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 8,81,521 and the recovery rate at 85.17 percent.

Among the 220 deceased, 142 were men and 78 women. Of them one was between 11-20 years old, nine 21-30 years old, 17 were within 31-40; 26 between 41-50; 46 within 51-60 and 121 were above 60 years old, added the release.
