Highest number of Covid-19 cases reported in 24 hours; 199 dead, 11,651 infected

One hundred and ninety-nine people died from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am today, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country now stands at 15,792 and the death rate stands at 1.60 percent.

At least 11,651 new infections were recorded during the period, taking the total number of people infected to 9,89,219, added the release. This is the highest number of new cases recorded in a day so far since the pandemic broke out.

The current positivity rate is 31.62 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 14.41 percent.

A total of 36,850 samples were tested across the country in the 24 hours.

At least 5,844 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 8,56,346 and the recovery rate at 86.57 percent.

Among the 199 deceased, 133 were men and 66 were women.

Of them, two was between 11-20 years old, nine were within 21-30, six between 31-40, 28 between 41-50, 47 between 51-60 and 107 were above 60 years old, added the release.
