A Covid-19 patient in Lalmonirhat claimed that he was forcefully discharged from the Sadar hospital before recovery, 10 days after testing positive.

Sufi Mohammad (48) of Adarshapara area of the town, was admitted to the Covid Unit of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital on June 21, when he tested positive for coronavirus.

However, the hospital discharged him on July 1, although he was still very ill, Sufi claimed.

"I'm very sick. I told the doctor. Even then I was forcibly released," Sufi said.

Moreover, the hospital on the discharge form wrote "DOR" (discharged on request).

"I did not apply for clearance. I requested to stay in the hospital," Sufi told our correspondent.

Sufi stayed in the hospital till the afternoon of July 2, a day after his discharge, as he was feeling ill.

"But because I was not given any treatment, I was forced to come home on the afternoon of July 2," he alleged.

"I am still sick. I still don't know if I am Covid-19 positive or negative. I am a risk to my family. My family members and I requested the hospital authorities to let me stay for treatment," he said.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital Dr Manjur Morshed Dolan said no patient can be declared "healthy" within 14 days of Covid-19 identification. He said that the issue of discharging a patient before that period is over is being investigated.

Dr Sirajul Islam, superintendent of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, said that the patient was discharged at his request. Since the patient has a complaint regarding this, the matter is being investigated.
