17 die at Covid units of 4 Khulna hospitals in 24 hours

Seventeen people died while undergoing treatment at the Covid units of four Khulna hospitals in 24 hours till 8:00am today.

The four hospitals are Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), Gazi Medical College Hospital, Khulna General Hospital and Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital.

Dr Suhas Ranjan Halder, resident medical officer and spokesperson of the Covid unit at KMCH, said that 10 patients died at the unit in 24 hours till this morning. Of them, five were Covid-19 positive and the rest had symptoms.

A total of 187 people were undergoing treatment at the hospital's Covid unit till 8:00am today. Of them, 117 are undergoing treatment in red zone, 30 in yellow zone, 20 are in high-dependency unit (HDU) and 20 at intensive care unit (ICU), reports our Khulna correspondent.

Forty-one patients were admitted at the unit in 24 hours till this morning and 45 were discharged from the hospital.

Gazi Medical College Hospital owner Gazi Mizanur Rahman said, four patients died at the hospital's Covid unit during 24 hours till 8am.

Besides, 119 patients were receiving treatment during this time at the hospital's Covid unit. Of them, nine were in ICU and eight in HDU, he added.

On the other hand, two patients died while being treated at the Covid unit of Khulna General Hospital, said the unit's spokesperson Dr Kazi Abu Rashed. Sixty-three were taking treatment at the unit till this morning, he added.

At Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital, one person died at its Covid unit during the period, said the unit's spokesperson Dr Prakash Chandra Debnath.
