15 die at Covid units of 3 Khulna hospitals in 24 hours
Fifteen people died while undergoing treatment at the Covid units of three Khulna hospitals in the last 24 hours till 8:00am today.
The three hospitals are Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), Gazi Medical College Hospital and Khulna General Hospital.
Dr Suhas Ranjan Halder, resident medical officer and spokesperson of the Covid unit at KMCH, said that seven patients died at the unit in 24 hours till this morning. Of them, six were Covid-19 positive and one had symptoms.
A total of 197 people were undergoing treatment at the hospital's Covid unit till 8:00am today. Of them, 102 are undergoing treatment in red zone, 55 in yellow zone, 20 are in high-dependency unit (HDU) and 20 are at intensive care unit (ICU).
Forty patients were admitted at the unit in 24 hours till morning and 55 were discharged from the hospital.
Gazi Medical College Hospital owner Gazi Mizanur Rahman said, six patients died at the hospital's Covid unit during 24 hours till 8am.
Besides, 115 patients were receiving treatment during this time at the hospital's Covid unit. Of them, eight were in ICU and 10 in HDU, he added.
On the other hand, two patients died while being treated at the Covid unit of Khulna General Hospital, said the unit's spokesperson Dr Kazi Abu Rashed. Sixty-five were taking treatment at the unit till this morning, he added.
Yesterday, a Covid unit was opened at Khulna's Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital where 24 patients have been admitted till this morning.
The operation of RT-PCR lab at Khulna Medical College Hospital was suspended on Thursday due to contamination of coronavirus. The services were scheduled to resume on Saturday but it did not. The authorities are trying to resume the operation as soon as possible, said Khulna Medical College Principal Dr Mehedi Newaz.
