Former deputy director of CMCH dies of Covid-19

A doctor in Chattogram died of Covid-19 at a private hospital in the port city last night.

The deceased Dr AJM Shamsuddin Chowdhury (83) was a former deputy director of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Dr Shamsuddin graduated as part of Chattogram Medical College's second MBBS batch, said Dr Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury -- general secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association Chattogram chapter -- adding that after tested positive for Covid-19, he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the port city where he passed away around 11:30 pm yesterday.

With Shamsuddin's death, the total number of doctors who died of the virus in Chattogram since March last year goes up to 27, said Dr Faisal.

Meanwhile, a total of 12 patients died of Covid-19 in Chattogram in 24 hours, while a total of 848 new cases were detected out of 2282 samples tested, said Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram.
