Ex-BNP lawmaker Salauddin sent to jail in 2015 arson case

A Dhaka tribunal today denied bail to Md Salauddin Ahmed, former BNP lawmaker from Demra, and sent him to jail in a case filed over torching a bus in 2015.

Judge Md Aftabuzzaman of the Special Tribunal-13 of Dhaka passed the order after the BNP leader surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.

In the order, the judge mentioned that the accused had been absconding from the very beginning of the case.

Moreover, it is a case of arson and so his bail was rejected, the judge added.

The judge set September 12 for hearing on charge framing against Salauddin and other accused in the case.

According to the prosecution, a group of BNP-led 20-party alliance allegedly brought out a procession near Mayor Hanif Flyover in Dhaka city around 2:00pm on January 30, 2015, and torched a minibus of Modina Enterprize by hurling crude bombs.

Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Md Omar Ali of Wari Police Station filed a case against 16 BNP leaders and activists.

On August 12 the same year, Wari SI Md Shah Alam submitted a charge sheet against BNP leader MK Anwar, Salauddin and 32 others.
