DoE shuts 7 tanneries in Savar, cuts off water, electricity lines
Department of Environment (DoE) today shut seven tannery factories and disconnected its electricity, and water lines for allegedly releasing liquid waste into the Dhaleshwari river, violating a High Court order.
The tanneries are MS City Leather, Yusuf brother's tanneries Pvt Ltd, MS Sathi Leather Ltd, Great Eastern Tannery Pvt Ltd, Bangla Tan Product Leather, Feni Leather Ltd, and MS Pubali Tannery Ltd, reports our local correspondent quoting Johirul Islam Talukdar, deputy director of the DoE (Dhaka region).
All are located at BSCIC Tannery Industrial Estate in Savar.
Such drive will continue in future as well, he said.
Dhaka district office and the monitoring and enforcement wing of the DoE jointly conducted the drive.
DoE Executive Magistrate Ali Razib Mahmood Mithun, its assistant directors (Dhaka district) Robiul Awal Khan, and Hayat Mahmood Rokib, and Inspector (environment) Protik Islam were also present.
