‘War of the Worlds’ named worst film at 46th Razzie Awards
The 2025 remake of “War of the Worlds”, starring Ice Cube, has been named the worst film of the year at the 46th Golden Raspberry Awards.
The film dominated this year’s Razzie Awards, taking home five trophies from six nominations. It won worst picture, while Ice Cube received the award for worst actor. The film also picked up awards for worst director for Rich Lee, worst screenplay for Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman, and worst prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel.
Razzie organisers described the film as a “cult hate-watch classic,” saying it quickly became a standout among poorly received releases. The remake, loosely based on the novel by H G Wells, was criticised for its screenplay, direction and performances.
Another notable mention went to “Snow White”, where the “seven artificial dwarfs” collectively received two Razzie awards. The organisers joked that the expensive remake may have ignored the wishes of Walt Disney, who reportedly opposed remaking the classic.
Among the individual acting winners, Rebel Wilson received a Razzie for her performance in “Bride Hard”, while Scarlet Rose Stallone was recognised for her role in the western “Gunslingers”.
Meanwhile, Kate Hudson received the Razzie Redeemer Award for her performance in “Song Sung Blue”. The award honours performers who rebound from earlier Razzie criticism with a notable performance. Hudson, who has previously been singled out by the Razzies for films including “Music”, “Mother’s Day” and “My Best Friend’s Girl”, is also nominated for an Oscar this year for the same role.
The Razzie Awards are voted on by more than 1,200 members from across the United States and over two dozen countries, recognising what organisers describe as the worst achievements in film each year.
