Torsa signs new film ‘Mati’
Model and actor Rafah Nanjeba Torsa, who rose to prominence after winning Miss World Bangladesh in 2019 and later represented the country on the international Miss World stage, has signed on for a new feature film titled "Mati". The film is written and directed by Syed Shamsher Tarif.
According to the filmmaker, "Mati" is set against a rural backdrop and explores dreams, struggles, and a life intertwined with the soil and the river. Filming is currently under way in several locations of Maheshpur and Ichamati river, on the Bangladesh–India border in Jhenaidah. Shooting began at the start of the month, and the director aims for an Eid-ul-Adha 2026 release if all goes to plan.
Sharing her excitement, Torsa said, "I'm very excited about this film. I really loved the story and my character. The entire narrative revolves around the Ichamati river and the lives, love, and daily struggles of the people on its banks. There is a beautiful blend of flowers and romance in the story as well. We have been shooting for nearly a month and need a few more days to finish. Everyone is giving their best to bring the story to life."
Actor Alvi Mamun stars opposite Torsa. Speaking about the project, he said, "The story of 'Mati' is quite different. Although the setting is rural, the narrative isn't like other films. The characters unfold naturally within the story. The role I'm playing is wonderful, and I believe audiences will love it. I've been preparing for this character for a year. The film required me to learn new things, and I started shooting only after completing every kind of preparation."
"Mati" marks Torsa's second film. She has already completed shooting for "Nirjon Shakkhor", co-starring Khairul Basar. That film is currently in post-production.
