Legendary actor Ilias Javed passes away

Veteran Bangladeshi film actor Ilias Javed passed away today at around 12:00pm at his residence in Uttara. He had been suffering from illness for a long time. His death was confirmed to The Daily Star by Apurba Rana, joint secretary general of the Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association.


Javed was one of the prominent leading men of Bangladeshi cinema’s golden era. He made his debut as a hero in the 1964 Urdu film “Nai Zindagi”. However, it was after the release of the 1966 film “Payel” that he rose to popularity among audiences. The film starred Shabana opposite him.


Renowned filmmaker Mustafiz had given him the screen name Javed.


Among the notable films he acted in are “Maleka Banu”, “Nishan”, “Papi Shatru”, “Rokto Shopoth”, “Saheb Bibi Golam”, “Kajol Rekha”, “Onek Din Agey”, “Ajio Bhulini”, “Kothor”, “Ma Baba Shontan”, “Rakhal Raja”, “Rosher Baidani”, “Jibon Shongi” and “Abdullah”.
