Brad Pitt to present 'Heart of the Beast' at San Sebastián Film Festival

Brad Pitt's “Heart of the Beast”, directed by David Ayer, has been added to the lineup of the San Sebastián Film Festival, where it will screen out of competition in the Official Selection.

Pitt and Ayer will attend the festival to present the survival thriller, organisers announced on Monday (August 24). The festival will take place from September 18 to 26.

The film stars Pitt as a former Army Special Forces soldier who is stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after his small plane crashes. With the help of a retired service dog named Odin, he must navigate the harsh landscape, evade wild animals and find his way back to civilisation.

Academy Award winner JK Simmons and Anna Lambe also star in the film. Pitt serves as a producer alongside Olivia Hamilton and Marty Bowen, with Ayer also producing.

“Heart of the Beast” was written by Cameron Alexander, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Damien Chazelle, Scott Lumpkin, Chris Long, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, Andrew Lary, Sophie Cassidy and Zack Conroy.

The film is produced by A Wild Chickens, Temple Hill and Kino World, in association with Domain Entertainment and Gulfstream Pictures.

“Heart of the Beast” reunites Pitt and Ayer after their collaboration on the 2014 World War II film “Fury”, which starred Pitt as a US Army tank commander.

The film marks the first major star appearance announced for this year's San Sebastián Film Festival. Another expected presence is Penélope Cruz, who stars in Olivia Wilde's “The Invite” and makes an extended cameo as a cabaret singer in Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi's “La bola negra”. Both films are part of the festival's Perlak section.
