Janaza of Shams Sumon held amid tributes at Channel i
The first janaza of National Film Award-winning actor and Radio Bhumi’s Station Chief Shams Sumon was held today, Wednesday (March 18), at 11 am on the premises of Channel i. Colleagues of the late actor, along with many members of the cultural community, gathered to pay their final respects.
Among those present were Impress Telefilm and Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar, Head of News and media personality Shykh Seraj, as well as actors and cultural figures Omar Sani, director Badal Khandakar, Zahid Hasan, Mir Sabbir, Azad Abul Kalam, Ramendu Majumdar, Tropa Majumdar, Afzal Hossain, Nader Chowdhury, Intekhab Dinar, Shatabdi Wadud, Ahsan Habib Nasim, Shokal Ahmed, Tahmeena Sultana Mou, Shahed Sharif Khan, Wahida Mollick Jolly, among others.
Additionally, the actor was paid tribute on behalf of the recitation organisation Swanan and the Actors’ Equity Association.
It has been learned that Shams Sumon’s family has set out for the country from the United Kingdom. He will be buried in the family graveyard once they return. Until then, his body will be kept in the mortuary at CMH in the capital.
Shams Sumon passed away on Tuesday (March 17) at around 6:30 pm at a private hospital in the capital after suffering cardiac arrest.
Once a popular actor in television dramas, Shams Sumon performed across stage, television, and film. He was serving as the Station Chief at Radio Bhumi.
He began his journey in the cultural arena through the recitation group “Swanan” at the University of Rajshahi.
In recent years, he had stepped away from regular television appearances.
His film credits include “Mon Janena Moner Thikana” (2016), “Cox’s Bazar e Kakatuya” (2016), “Chokher Dekha” (2016), “Priya Tumi Sukhi Hou” (2014), “Ayna Kahini” (2013), “Hello Amit” (2012), “Nomuna” (2008), “Bidrohi Padma” (2006), and “Joyjatra” (2004).
In 2008, he received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Swapno Puron”.
