Emon-starrer ‘Moynar Char’ set for early New Year release

Actor Mamunun Emon is set to return to theatres with the government grant-funded film "Moynar Char", slated for release at the beginning of the new year.

Emon signed on to the project towards the end of last year, with shooting taking place at Char Alexander in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur. Following the completion of shooting and editing, the film is now ready for theatrical release and is expected to hit cinemas early in the new year.

Director Mostafizur Rahman Babu said the film has already received clearance from the Bangladesh Film Certification Board without any cuts. If everything proceeds as planned, the film will be released in January.

"We have discussed the release of 'Moynar Char' with the producer and cast. We are aiming to release the film before the national election, as Ramadan will follow soon after, and Eid is usually crowded with releases," the director said. "If all goes well, January 16 has been planned as a tentative release date. The official announcement will be made within a few days."

Speaking about the story, the director said the film portrays the many struggles of life in char areas, unfolding around a murder. "To present the story authentically, shooting was carried out in remote locations. Everyone involved worked tirelessly, and I hope audiences will see that effort on screen," he added.

Emon, who is currently in the United States, said he was delighted to hear the news of the film's upcoming release. He noted that "Moynar Char" allowed him to experiment as an actor in a new way.

"In the film, my character's name is Kashem. We shot in winter in a very remote char area. 'Moynar Char' was among the highest-scoring scripts under the government grant scheme," Imon said. "Hearing that the film has received clearance from the certification board without any objections or cuts has given me a great sense of peace."

Recalling his shooting experience, the actor said the story is rooted in remote regions of the country, and filming took place in similarly isolated locations. "The setting was picturesque, surrounded by rivers with a char in between. There were very few residents, no electricity, and no modern facilities. Yet, the way of life of the people there truly fascinated me," he said.

In "Moynar Char", Emon stars opposite Shusmi Rahman, while Suman Parvez serves as co-producer.
