‘Delupi’ premieres in Khulna, villagers celebrate their own story on screen
The premiere screening of the film "Delupi" was held on Wednesday at the Darun Mallik Primary School field in Deluti Union, Paikgacha upazila of Khulna.
The rural school ground transformed into a festive fairground as hundreds of spectators gathered to celebrate the occasion with family and friends.
Although the premiere took place yesterday, "Delupi" is set to hit cinema halls in Khulna tomorrow (Friday) and will be released nationwide on November 14.
Crowds began arriving in the afternoon, carrying posters and memorabilia that added to the excitement. Following the screening, many viewers were seen beaming with emotion and pride.
Shamima Akter, a resident of Deluti village, shared, "It feels like a matter of pride that a film has been made in the name of our area. The story felt so real—just like our own lives."
The screening stirred deep emotions among locals, many of whom saw their own stories reflected on screen.
Badiar Rahman, a member of the local 5 No Union Parishad, said, "Erosion had always been our destiny. But it is because of that very erosion that we now get to see our own lives depicted on the big screen. Through the film 'Delupi', the harsh realities and suffering of our daily lives will reach audiences around the world. I hope this film will mark the beginning of a change in our fate."
Director Mohammad Touqir Islam noted, "The story of 'Delupi' is inspired by the lives, realities, and relationships of the people of this region. Though rooted in local experiences, it reflects the struggles and emotions shared by people across the country. The love and support from local audiences have been my greatest reward."
Local representatives, cultural activists, journalists, and teachers and students from nearby institutions attended the event, describing the film as a source of inspiration for the younger generation.
"Delupi" marks the feature film debut of director Mohammad Touqir Islam, known for his strong focus on local stories. In 2022, he created "Shaaticup" for an OTT platform, based on life in Rajshahi city—earning both critical and audience acclaim. His 2024 project "Sinpaat" further established him as a promising young filmmaker. "Delupi" is produced by Footprint Film Production.
