Chattogram-based theatre troupe Avant-garde Theatre Group is set to host a five-day theatre festival in April, marking its 26th anniversary after earlier postponements.

Titled “Abiram Ahornish Poth Peronor Chabbish”, the festival will run from April 2 to 6 at the Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy, with daily performances scheduled at 7:00pm.

The event was initially planned for January and later rescheduled for February, but was delayed twice due to unforeseen circumstances and the national elections. Organisers say the festival is now finally ready to take the stage.

The five-day programme will feature five productions, all directed by theatre practitioner Suman Tinku. Four plays will be staged by Avant-garde, while one production will be presented by Pratibhash Theatre Group. The opening day will also include a special tribute segment titled “Suman Tinkur Srijon Mukur” in honour of the director.

The festival will begin on April 2 at 5:30pm with an inaugural ceremony, followed by the play “Fire,” directed by Shamsul Kabir Liton. On April 3, audiences will see “Mahabir Bikram,” written and directed by Suman Tinku.

The third day, April 4, will feature “Nabanna Firey Aso”, directed by Moslem Uddin Sikder. On April 5, Pratibhash Theatre Group will stage “Paap”, directed by Konkon Dash. The festival will conclude on April 6 with Avant-garde’s production “Che”.

Organisers noted that despite delays and uncertainties, their commitment to theatre remained unwavering. They hope the festival will bring together performers and audiences in a vibrant celebration of storytelling following Ramadan and Eid.
