Zahid Hasan calls viral diabetes ‘cure’ video fabricated
Acclaimed Bangladeshi actor Zahid Hasan has dismissed a viral social media video claiming he recovered from diabetes without medication, describing the clip as entirely fabricated and part of a deceptive online scheme.
The video, presented in the style of a satellite television news report, falsely identifies Hasan as a musician and alleges that he had long suffered from diabetes, felt like a burden to his family, and was unable to play with his grandchildren before supposedly overcoming the illness without treatment. A television channel logo was also used in the clip, apparently to create the impression of a legitimate news broadcast.
“I have never said anything like this anywhere. The entire matter is made up,” Hasan said after learning about the video from colleagues.
Refuting the personal claims, the actor noted that both of his children are still studying and are not married, making the story about grandchildren entirely fictitious.
Hasan alleged that the misleading content was created by dubbing over footage taken from an unrelated news segment. He also questioned the unauthorised use of television branding to promote what appeared to be promotional or commercial misinformation.
“People in this country are often trusting. Many believe things without verification, which creates serious risks of misinformation,” he said.
The actor added that his identity had previously been misused in another fabricated video involving false medical claims. Calling for stricter enforcement against cybercrime, Hasan urged authorities to take action against those responsible.
“They are a fraudulent group doing business through lies. Spreading false stories about an artist like this is a crime,” he said.
