Ending violence against women
On October 10, 2014, 'World Boston', a Boston based council of world affairs, sponsored an open conversation on the topic: Preventing Violence against Women: A Project for Bangladesh. This project was sponsored by the US State Department to understand the gender-based violence in Bangladesh as a global issue. This project also emphasised the need to make a comprehensive study on civil society and government to work together to prevent gender-based violence and thus explore legal, social, and community based strategies to achieve the goal of violence-free society in Bangladesh and the world. I did have the honour to attend this conversation.
Every day from the newspapers we come to know about various types of violence against women of Bangladesh such as: rape, stalking, acid-throwing, murdering etc. To claim a civil and democratic society, I urge Bangladesh government to do much more to stop the ongoing crimes and violence against women and make the country a safe one for them.
