DU to resume coronavirus test from tomorrow

Star Online Report

Dhaka University (DU) authorities will resume coronavirus testing facilities at its lab from tomorrow.

DU will bear the cost of Covid-19 tests, said Prof Sharif Akhteruzzaman, convener of the university's coronavirus response technical committee.

"Considering the current situation of the country, we should stand by the countrymen and the ministry of health also requested us to resume the testing," he said.

The ministry of health will provide testing kits and personal protective equipment (PPE) while the DU authorities will bear the other expenses, said Prof Sharif.

The testing will be conducted at the lab set up in Centre for Advanced Research at Social Sciences faculty building, he added.

The authorities on June 1 stopped coronavirus testing facilities at its lab citing fund crisis and the need for returning the laboratory apparatus, which were being used in the lab, to the respective departments.

The DU authorities got approval for conducting tests from the ministry on April 27 and started testing samples from May 5.
