Cineplex raises concern over delayed film deliveries ahead of Eid
Before a film’s release, cinemas require a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) to ensure proper screening. If any technical issue arises within the file, a fresh DCP must be created, making the process both time-consuming and crucial for scheduling releases.
During the previous Eid season, Cineplex authorities faced challenges due to delayed deliveries and technical complications involving DCPs. Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha releases, the country’s leading multiplex chain has once again expressed concern over similar disruptions.
Mesbah Ahmed, media manager of Cineplex, reportedly told Channel i that multiple films are scheduled for release this Eid, and the chain intends to screen as many titles as possible. However, with Eid now only a day away, Cineplex is still waiting to receive DCPs for several films.
According to him, the delay is creating major difficulties in finalising screening schedules. He explained that without receiving the DCPs, it is not possible to confirm showtimes or open advance ticket sales. Even after the files arrive, additional time is required for technical verification.
He further noted that late submissions from producers disrupt the entire operational workflow and warned that Cineplex should not be held responsible for complications arising from such delays. He also stressed the importance of avoiding a repeat of the problems experienced during the previous Eid season.
Several films, including “Rockstar”, “Roid”, “Masud Rana”, “Malik”, and “Bonolota Sen”, are expected to release this Eid. However, the final list of confirmed titles has yet to be officially announced.
Meanwhile, with around 120 cinema halls operating across the country, industry stakeholders believe the simultaneous release of multiple films within a limited number of screens presents a major competitive challenge and potential risk for the local film industry.
