In memory of the late Ruby Ghuznavi, a discussion programme, along with an exhibition, was organised at Bengal Shilpalay on Thursday, March 2 around at 6.30 pm. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Parveen Hasan, Vice-Chancellor of Central Women's University.

Virtual Museum Bangladesh celebrates the first-year anniversary of its beta version launch with the inauguration of a new historical site in their museum.

On February 23, 2023, Bengal Shilpalay held the book launch ceremony for “Portraits of Artists”, coupled with an exhibition.

Noted director-actor Mamunur Rashid will inaugurate the weeklong street-theatre festival as the Chief Guest at 4:30pm, while Golam Kuddus, the president of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, will be present as the Special Guest.

The festival included four exhibitions, namely Made in Bangladesh by Prachyanat, Voices of Bangladesh by iCan Foundation, Moheshkhali Exhibition by University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Hum Studio Interactive, and Auyoni: Beyond Sexuality by Ayreen Khan which were displayed at Gallery 1 of the BSA.

Yesterday evening was about Kathak, one of the eight forms of classical dancing known for its sophisticated footwork and graceful hand gestures or Mudras. Around 300 dancers graced the stage in perfect synchrony and symphony to the beats of the tabla and flute.

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh and Korea’s friendship, the two-day-long Korean Cultural Festival 2023, orgasnised by KOICA in collaboration with the Korean Embassy and the local Korean community in Bangladesh, concluded today at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).

The decline in river water and how we are losing our natural resource has been beautifully portrayed through “Nodi Nebe!” –a photography exhibition by Kakoli Prodhan. This is a plea to save rivers, as they have life too.  

Co-curated with The South Asia Gallery Collective, the museum will celebrate the contribution of the South Asian community in the UK. It will further encourage the younger generations to learn more about South Asian heritage and culture.

During the workshop, the eight artists –Dina Zaman, Sadia Hussain Ether, Abir Shome, Syed Tareq Rahman, Jewel A. Rob, Sanjid Mahmud, Rupam Roy, Emran Sohel produced art pieces along with the kids of Shishupolli. Dina herself wore full white clothes and asked the kids to paint on them. They also painted with the art supplies they received at the workshop. It ended with a small cultural program by the residents of Shishupolli.

Daagi’s latest exhibition, which has been titled “Zero Calorie”, tries to re-explore our contemporary issues, questioning and reminding us of the usual narratives which are underlyingly problematic and collectively ignored. For instance, even their choice of words in the exhibition title and note has a metaphorical meaning too.

The workshop will feature eight emerging Bangladeshi artists with their 2D, collaborative, and collective artworks.

The event was dedicated to the loving memory of Indian developmental feminist activist, poet, author and social scientist, Kamla Bhasin.

DAS 2023 was a blast that left us with more appreciation and appetite for art. Two years will go by soon and before we know it, DAS will be back in 2025 hopefully, with a bigger burst of emotions, skills, and creativity.   

Whether it is context, knowledge or simply to take part in the dispersion of intellectual property, more people are now visiting art exhibitions. Last weekday’s visit to DAS showed exactly that, with the authority even having to almost prohibit taking pictures of artworks.

Visiting the DAS on its fifth day, I had a wonderful experience of watching this performance live. While walking through the gallery, I was fascinated by the thunder noises and the soft sound of raindrops hitting the ground. It took me a while to find the pavilion, and by then there was a small group of visitors circling the performance.
