Indian singer Srikanta Acharya is currently in Bangladesh with his family, spending time in Dhaka during the Pahela Baishakh festivities while revisiting his ancestral roots.

Srikanta Acharya, a prominent figure in contemporary Bengali music from West Bengal, has longstanding familial ties to Bangladesh. His ancestors hailed from Mymensingh, a connection he has repeatedly said deepens his emotional bond with the country.

The singer has been visiting Bangladesh since 2000 and has travelled widely across the country over the past 26 years. While he has been to Dhaka many times, this marks his first visit to the historic Dhakeshwari Temple.

Speaking about the visit, he said, “I have been coming to Bangladesh since 2000. Over the past 26 years, I have visited Dhaka many times and travelled to other parts of the country as well. However, this is my first time at Dhakeshwari Temple. Experiencing the Pahela Baishakh celebrations while visiting this historic site with my family has been very special.”

During his stay, Acharya has been meeting close friends and colleagues from the music industry. His visit this time appears largely personal, focused on family and cultural engagement rather than professional commitments.

On Wednesday evening, he also visited Baatighar in Dhaka, where he browsed books by various authors and interacted with the organisation’s representatives.

Acharya continues to enjoy strong popularity among audiences in both West Bengal and Bangladesh. Reflecting on his global performances, he said, “I have performed in many countries around the world. But I must say that in most places, a large section of the audience has been Bangladeshi. The emotional connection with which they listen to my songs deeply moves me. I am an emotional person myself, so this connection is very valuable to me.”
