Shahnewaz Kakoli to travel to Bengaluru for advanced treatment

National Film Award-winning filmmaker Shahnewaz Kakoli is set to travel to Bengaluru, India, later this month for advanced medical treatment, as her condition has shown little improvement following a stroke.

Speaking to Channel i Online, actor Pran Roy, Kakoli’s husband, said preparations are underway to take the filmmaker to Bengaluru’s Manipal Hospital, where consultations have already been completed and medical visas secured.

“Her treatment has been ongoing for a long time, but there has not been much improvement. We are planning to move her to Bengaluru very soon,” he said.

According to Pran Roy, Kakoli remains unable to walk and still has limited movement on the left side of her body due to paralysis caused by the stroke. Although months of therapy at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Mirpur have brought some progress, her overall condition remains a concern.

“She can now sit for a while with support, which was not possible before. But she still cannot walk without assistance, and even eating remains difficult,” he said.

The couple plans to trahttps://translate.google.com/vel to Bengaluru between June 15 and 20. However, Pran Roy said the biggest challenge now is arranging the substantial funds required for treatment abroad.

“We do not yet know how long the treatment will take or what the total cost will be. We need to travel with a significant amount of money in hand,” he said.

He added that while the treatment has so far been managed through personal efforts and support from well-wishers, the expenses associated with overseas treatment are expected to be considerably higher.

Pran Roy said the Actors Equity Bangladesh had extended some assistance, though he had not received significant support from organisations representing filmmakers.

Many individuals have also come forward to help, including Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar, he said.

Shahnewaz Kakoli made her directorial debut with “Uttorer Sur” in 2012. The film received critical acclaim at home and abroad and won four National Film Awards. She later directed several projects, including “From Bangladesh”, parts of which remain unfinished.
