Miles, Warfaze to headline 'Concert for Democracy' at Suhrawardy Udyan on Aug 5

Seven of Bangladesh's leading bands will perform at "Concert for Democracy", a free open-air concert marking the second anniversary of the July Uprising, at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on August 5.

The event is being organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, supervised by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, with support from the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA).

The line-up features Miles, Warfaze, Different Touch, Lalon, Highway, Ashes and RERE. The concert will begin at 3pm and continue until 9pm, while entry gates will open at 1pm. Admission is free.

BAMBA President Hamin Ahmed said music had played a significant role during the July movement, making it a fitting medium to commemorate the occasion.

"Music played an important role during the July movement. We want to observe the day through music," he said. "With BAMBA's support, we hope people will join us in large numbers. RERE will perform during the opening segment, followed by Ashes, Different Touch, Lalon, Highway, Miles and Warfaze. The programme will also include an award presentation."

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Rezauddin Stalin said the concert aims to keep alive the memory of the July uprising through culture.

"The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has taken this initiative to commemorate the July movement through the academy," he said. "Comprehensive security measures will be in place to ensure the event is held smoothly."

According to the organisers, the concert is intended not only as a musical event but also as a celebration of culture and democratic values.

The same day, another open-air concert, "Barsha Biplober Gaan," will be held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on Manik Mia Avenue. Organised by the Monsoon Cultural Alliance, the event will feature performances by Artcell, Shironamhin, Ark, AvoidRafa, Kureghor, Asif Akbar, Sezan, Nahid with Musicians, Band Neel, J K Tahmid, Parsha Mahzabeen, and others. The concert will begin at 4pm and will also be open to the public.
