Cultural Affairs Minister, State Minister visit ailing Shabnam Mustari, provide financial aid
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury visited the residence of renowned Nazrul singer and Ekushey Padak recipient Shabnam Mustari in Dhanmondi to enquire about her health and provide financial assistance for her treatment.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom accompanied the minister during the visit.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on Saturday, the veteran singer has been undergoing treatment for a long time due to age-related health complications and dementia.
The minister and the state minister met Shabnam Mustari at her residence, enquired about her condition and spoke with her family members.
During the visit, the ministry’s Shilpi Kallyan Trust handed over a cheque for Tk 500,000 to support her urgent medical expenses.
Deputy General Manager of the Shilpi Kallyan Trust Shaila Khanam and members of the singer’s family were also present.
Shabnam Mustari was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1997 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Nazrul music. She later received the National Nazrul Award in 2015. She is the eldest daughter of poet Talim Hossain and novelist and journalist Begum Mafruha Chowdhury.
