Chhayanaut stages ‘Shyama’ to mark Tagore’s 85th death anniversary

Chhayanaut commemorated the 85th death anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Thursday with a staging of his celebrated dance-drama “Shyama” at the Chhayanaut Auditorium in Dhanmondi.

The evening opened with a narration by Tania Mannan, followed by the performance of the Tagore classic, which explores themes of love, sacrifice, guilt and redemption.

Monisha Sarkar portrayed the title character, while Dipra Nishant appeared as Bajrasen. The cast also featured Sanjay Banik as Uttiya, Arnab Barua as Kotal and Inzamam-ul-Hossain Emon as Bandhu.

The production’s music was directed by A T M Jahangir, while Sharmila Bandyopadhyay oversaw the overall production planning and stage design.

The programme concluded with a rendition of Bangladesh’s national anthem by Chhayanaut artistes.
