Poetry

Incomplete

Get drunk by Gazal they say,
I never understood that
Until now,
Intertwined with the chorus,
reverberating tiles of harmonium
Yearning to hear more—
More about them,
It wasn’t about two people
It had lonely anxious minds,
depressed poisoned souls
It was the last sip of Bhang—bittersweet
Bitter but sweet
As they say—incomplete
He was as if the jolting writer’s fading ink,
Occupied in mind,
Tears trail as
It all became memories in a blink
It’s the details she remembers
But damn the ink
Destiny—they say
Maybe on another page,
there’s enough ink to leave a mark.
Or as they say in another universe—
She sips Rab (date juice),
Smiles wide with kohl eyes
Adorned in Gajra, and devours Shayri
with the lover by her side.
