Two arrested in connection with rape, abduction of 15-year-old in Cox’s Bazar

Two people were arrested in connection with a case filed over the rape and abduction of a 15-year-old girl at Eidgaon area of Cox's Bazar.

The victim's grandfather filed a case against four people with Eidgaon Police Station on Saturday, reports our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent. Two of the accused still remain on the run.

The accused are, Jafar Alam alias Khorshed (55), general secretary of Eidgaon Microbus Drivers Association; Ahmad Ullah (26), a microbus driver; Zafar Alam (40), and Jalal alias Tukkuilla (19).

Jafar Alam was detained by police on Saturday and Ahmad Ullah was arrested later the same day after the victim's grandfather filed a case Saturday.

Eidgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Halim confirmed the matter and said they are trying to arrest the two other accused.

Citing the case statement, the OC said, the girl was kidnapped by three people when she was on her way to a programme in Maheshkhali upazila on January 28.

They took her to Chattogram's Baddarhat microbus stand and raped her there, the OC said.

She was raped for a second time by the three at Eidgaon Farid Ahmad College premises, he added.

On January 29, the three informed Khorshed about the girl and Khorshed took her to their microbus association office at Eidgaon Bazaar, the OC said quoting the case statement.

When she was being taken to a room of the office building, local policemen who were there heard her screaming and detained Khorshed from the spot, the OC added.

But the three other accused managed to flee.

Ahmad Ullah was arrested later that day, the OC said.

The victim was rescued and sent to hospital for treatment.
