Two arrested with 2 kg gold at Dhaka airport area

Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested two persons along with two kg gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in Dhaka early today.

The arrestees are: Kamal Parvez, 41, from Cumilla and Faridul Alam, 50, from Chattogram, said Alamgir Hossain, additional superintendent (ops and media) of Airport APBn.

A team of ABPn interrogated the duo due to their suspicious activities at parking area near outer gate of arrival terminal-2 around 12:00am. Due to their incoherent conversation, the official took them at the APBn office at airport and searched them and their backpacks, Alamgir said adding they found 12 gold bars and ornaments weighing two kg.

The value of the gold is worth around Tk one crore.

The APBn official said the arrestees were not incoming passengers. They are gold smugglers who receive the gold bars and ornaments from passengers, staying outside the airport.

A case was filed with Airport Police Station in this regard.
