Teenager arrested for attacking 2 girls with yet-to-be identified substance in Narayanganj
An 18-year-old was arrested today in a case filed for throwing a yet-to-be identified substance on two girls at Shashongao area in Narayanganj's Sadar upazila.
The accused Mehedi Hasan confessed to the crime under Section 144 at the Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court today. It is yet to be identified whether the substance was acid, said police.
One of the victims' fathers filed the case at the Fatullah Police Station yesterday night, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting police.
"Mehedi targeted Reshma Akhter Safiah (18) and threw the substance on her while she was returning home from her work with her friend Shopna on Saturday night. The substance burnt several parts of Reshma's body and Shopna's hand was burnt too," Fatullah Police Station Sub-inspector Sohag Chowdhury told The Daily Star.
"Locals rescued them and took them to Narayanganj General Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Mehedi managed to flee the scene," SI Sohag said.
"Mehedi had proposed to Reshma on several occasions but she turned him down each time…," the SI added.
"Both the victims are in good health now and are taking rest at home," Sohag said.
