Suspected link to Hizb ut-Tahrir: 2 DU students handed to police

Star Digital Report

A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists handed over two Dhaka University (DU) students to Shahbagh police yesterday -- suspecting them to be members of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.

Abu Al Jinnatul and Md Sabul Islam, who identified themselves as third year students of English department, were held from Madhur Canteen.

According to eyewitnesses, the two were discussing "importance of Hizb ut-Tahrir" yesterday when the BCL activists approached them.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Shabagh Police Station Mohammad Mamun Ur Rashid today told The Daily Star that the detainees are being interrogated.

"The students were handed over to the police station for their suspicious activity," DU Assistant Proctor Abdur Rahim said.
