A pregnant woman was killed in an attack by her fathers' rivals in Bogura's Sonatala upazila today, according to witnesses.

The deceased, Kamrun Nahar (23), was married to Ranju Mia of Dighalkandi village in the upazila.

The victim's father Abdul Kader had a dispute with his neighbours over land in the village, Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Sonatala Police Station, said quoting locals.

As continuation to the dispute, a group of 8-10 people led by one Abdul Mannan (55) attacked Kamrun's father and other family members when they were working in a field adjacent to their home around 9:30 am, witnesses said.

The attackers hit Kamrun's head with sticks and kicked her in her belly as she was trying to save her family members from the attack, witnesses told our local correspondent.

Locals rescued Kamrun with critical injuries and took her to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead, they said.

Her body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, said OC Rezaul Karim.

"We have detained a woman for interrogation," the OC said, adding that the victim's family was preparing to file a case in connection with the death.
