Robbers killed Jubo League leader Rafikul Islam Lavlu at Pakshey in Ishwardi upazila, for his motorcycle and cash, on September 1, 2014 night, a team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) revealed after seven years of investigation.

Meanwhile, court sent one accused Md Polash Miah, 34, of Kalaripara in Rajshahi's Charghat upazila, to jail yesterday after he was produced before the court.

Lavlu was the former secretary of Pakshey union unit of BCL and also member of local Jubo League unit. His death sparked protests in Pakshey and Ishwardi.

Earlier, an investigation team of PBI, headed by Inspector Md Asaduzzaman, arrested the accused from Charghat upazila on January 8 this year and interrogated him in remand, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting Md Fazle Elahi, superintendent of Police of PBI in Pabna.

SP Elahi said the accused Polash along with his associates stopped Rafikul Islam Lavlu near Pakshey Toll Plaza when Lavlu along with his cousin Mostakin Monwar Ishtiak were returning home at 11:40 pm on September 1, 2014.

"The criminals beat them up and stabbed Lavlu and his cousin indiscriminately and snatched their motorcycle and money, leaving Lavlu dead on the spot while Ishtiak survived," the PBI SP said.

Later, a case was filed with Ishwardi Police Station accusing several unnamed people.

"PBI identified Polash and made the arrest eventually," the SP said, adding that Polash confessed his role in the killing and disclosed names of others involved.

The PBI SP declined to disclose the names of other accused for the sake of investigation.
