Misappropriation of Tk 1.4 crore: CID arrests widow from Dhaka’s Gulshan area
Following a case filed by her stepdaughter, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested Anju Kapoor from Dhaka's Gulshan area this morning on charges of "misappropriating" Tk 1.40 crore. Sheikh Omar Faruque, additional deputy inspector general of CID (Dhaka Metro) confirmed the development to The Daily Star.
The arrestee withdrew the money from the account of her deceased husband, Mostafa Jaglul Wahid, on October 11 last year -- a day after Jaglul died, claimed Md Khalidul Howlader, special superintendent of CID.
Anju concealed the news of her husband's death in order to transfer the aforementioned amount to her own account, said the CID official.
Mushfika Mostafa, Jaglul's daughter, filed the case this morning with Gulshan Police Station in this regard.
"We have found proof of the allegation brought against Anju during primary investigation," Khalidul added.
Earlier, Jaglul's daughters -- Mushfika and Mobashshera -- alleged that Anju, their stepmother, did not let them enter their paternal home in Gulshan following their father's death.
