Man arrested for killing homeless teenager after failing to rape her

A man allegedly killed a 15-year-old girl after he failed to rape her in Dhaka's Shaheed Minar area early today.

The victim was from a homeless family living near Shaheed Minar area.

Police arrested the accused killer Khayer (36) from the spot, said Mamun or Rashid, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.

On information that three teenage girls were beating up a man near Shaheed Minar area, a patrol team of police rushed there and found a girl in unconscious state, the OC said.

She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead around 3:00am.

The girls at the spot told police that the victim was their friend and Khayer strangled her to death after she refused his advances, the police officer said.

The body was sent to hospital mortuary.
