Kasemi latest Hefajat leader to be arrested

Maulana Korban Ali Kasemi, the vice-president of Hefajat-e-Islam's Dhaka Mahanagar committee, was arrested by Detective Branch of Gulshan Division police from the capital's Basabo area around 5:30pm today.

Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Division DB police, told The Daily Star that Kasemi -- joint secretary general of Bangladesh Khilafah Majlis --was found to be involved in the Shapla Chattar violence in 2013 and recent violent activities at the Baitul Mukarram mosque on March 26.

Kasemi will be shown arrested in a case filed regarding these incidents of violence, he added.

Recently, some nine top leaders including Mamunul were also arrested by police for their alleged involvement in the violence in 2013.
