Gunfight between BGB, ‘smugglers’ near Myanmar border; 4 lakh yaba tablets seized
Border Guard Bangladesh seized four lakh yaba tablets after a gunfight between them and "yaba smugglers" in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.
A press release from BGB signed by BGB-34 battalion Commander Lt Col Ali Hayder Azad Ahmed confirmed this.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of BGB took position at Chakboitha village near Myanmar border, BGB said in the press release.
The BGB troops tried to stop a group of eight to ten people in the area who were coming from Myanmar around 1:00am today.
The suspected criminals suddenly fired at the BGB members. In retaliation, the BGB troops fired back, triggering a gunfight between them.
At one stage, the yaba smugglers left eight bags of yaba tablets wrapped with clothes and when the BGB members chased them, they entered Myanmar territory. Later the BGB men found four lakh yaba pills in the bags.
BGB will file a case in this connection with Ukhia Police Station.
