Gold worth Tk 5 crore recovered at Dhaka airport, 1 held

Customs intelligence officials have recovered 71 gold bars -- weighing over eight kg -- in two separate drives at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The officials detained an incoming passenger Shahin Alam after he landed at the airport around 11:30pm on Tuesday night, on EK 584 flight. They found 32 pieces of gold bars, weighing around 3.7 kg, after searching him, says a press release.

In another drive, the officials recovered 39 gold bars, weighing around 4.5 kg, hidden under a seat of Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that landed at the airport from Dubai around 7:00am today.  

None was arrested in the drive as the bars were left abandoned.

The value of the recovered gold is worth around Tk five crore.
