Failing to rape, man kills teen near Shaheed Minar: Karmojibi Nari demands justice
Karmojibi Nari, a platform for working women, today demonstrated in front of the Central Shaheed Minar demanding capital punishment of the man who killed a 15-year-old girl after failing to rape her near the area.
The speakers said that the existing culture of impunity only fuels the incidents of sexual violence and the state must take responsibility.
The speakers demanded the prime minister to stand by the family of the deceased and provide financial assistance.
The mother of the deceased was also present at the demonstration and said, "I want justice for my daughter so that no mother has to experience such pain and this doesn't happen to anyone else."
Sanjida Sultana, acting executive director of Karmojibi Nari also joined the demonstration and said, it is the state's responsibility to ensure the basic needs of all citizens and the state must ensure the safety of all women regardless of social class.
Rajib Ahmed, central committee secretary of the Jatiya Sramik Jote Bangladesh, Sabina Yasmin, assistant project manager for Naripokkho, Sheikh Shahnaz, general secretary of Jatiya Garment Shilpa Sramik Jote, Naripokkho members Nazma Begum and Syeda Salma Parveen, Karmojibi Nari coordinator Hosne Ara Naqib, and organiser Al Jahid, among others spoke during the event.
