5 juveniles held in Ctg for stabbing teenager to death
Police arrested five juveniles on charges of killing a 15 year-old in Chattogram city's Mohammadpur area under Panchlaish Police Station early today.
The deceased, Md Rafiqul Islam, son of Firoj of Brahmanbaria district, was a worker of an aluminium factory, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
A case has been lodged against one youth and seven juveniles, saying that they stabbed and beat Rafiq to death, said police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md Abul Kashem Bhuiyan of Panchlaish Police Station, told The Daily Star that a brawl ensued between Rafiq and a group of juveniles over a mobile phone a few days ago, when the juvenile gang threatened to kill him.
"The group later picked Rafiq up from Muradpur area yesterday and confined him in Sultan Colony area of Mohammadpur. They tortured Rafiq. At one point, they stabbed him on his chest, leaving him critically injured," the OC added.
"Hearing the hue and cry, locals came forward, held one juvenile from the spot, and beat him up. Injured Rafiq was pronounced dead at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH)," the OC said.
"Later conducting a drive, police arrested five in connection with the murder," the OC said.
